Skive 2016, 2040, 2060:
The role of architecture in the future of the city

Four Boxes, Krabbesholm Højskole‘s gallery, is pleased to present ‘SKIVE 2016, 2040, 2060 – The role of architecture in the future of the city’. The starting point for the exhibition is the masterplan BIG Blue Skive 2040, which world renowned Danish architecture firm Bjarke Ingels Group has develop for the town. The highly ambitious vision was gifted to Skive by SPAR VEST FONDEN last year and has since then provoked some debate. The exhibition at Four Boxes casts a critical eye on the BIG Blue project in order to look at general tendencies and current problematics in relation to city planning. Is architecture really the best instrument to help turn around the negative development in which many Danish provincial towns find themselves because of urbanisation and globalisation? The exhibition has been produced by journalist Tobias Moe who reports on architecture and urban planning at the podcast BYLYD (city sound).

For the exhibition at Four Boxes Tobias Moe has created an installation with architecture models and posters as well as a sound collage with interviews with Skive mayor Peder Christian Kirkegaard, architecture and city planning experts as well as local citizens. The installation can be seen as a spatial unfolding of the podcast format that Tobias Moe normally works with. As a part of the exhibition he has also worked with the architecture teachers at the school and invited students to develop a series of scenarios depicting how Skive would look in the year 2060 were the BIG Blue project to be realised according to plan. A selection of these scenarios will be presented in Skive Folkeblad (local newspaper) on the day of the opening.

Tobias Moe is presenter and editor at the podcast BYLYD (www.bylyd.dk). He is a trained journalist and has been news anchor at P4 Copenhagen and press coordinator at large at Folkekirkens Nødhjælp (charity organisation). For a number a years Tobias Moe has worked with critical reporting on architecture and urban planning, both as independent blogger, as a consultant for Danish Association of Architects and copy writer at Danish Architecture Center and ByplanNyt.
