The study trip to Paris was planned to give the students a look into an art world that unfolds on slightly different terms than those we encounter at home. The trip therefore included, among other things, a trip around Paris’ smaller galleries and art-driven exhibition venues guided by curator and art writer Louise Steiwer, who had also arranged a studio visit with a local artist, Melanie Matranga.
The trip also included visits to several of the large institutions such as Louvre, Palais de Tokyo and the newly renovated Bourse de Commerce which houses the Pinault collection. A whole day was spent at the Center Pompidou, where the Thai film-artist Apichatpong Weerasethakul‘s exhibition was a highlight, as well as the huge surrealism exhibition became a great inspiration for the students’ task in the week after the trip: To create a work, as a paraphrase of the work seen on the study tour.
All in all, it was a unique opportunity to be inspired in a city that lives and breathes aesthetics and cultural history.
