Four Boxes Gallery presents the exhibition Evighedsgryden by artist Ellinor Åslund. In Ellinor Åslund’s first solo exhibition, we step into her immersive and grotesque universe where marionettes and ceramic sculptures come to life to put up a theatre of the absurdity of existence.
Through songs, video and baroque ceramics, a range of narratives are presented, such as Die Ewige Suppe (2025), a surreal puppet-theater-opera set in a bar, where the protagonist, a ceramic doll modelled after the artist, narrates fragmented memories and stories circling the existential experiences of pregnancy and motherhood. The theatre unfolds like a perpetual stew—an ever-evolving mixture of memories, dreams, and political realities, as the bar transforms into a shifting stage where hospital nurses, fairy tale figures, war ghosts, nationalist street booksellers, and bureaucratic enforcers converge, revealing how personal and collective histories interweave. The work is exhibited with a 75 minute video, the richly ornamented stage, props and puppets, and a spoon full of it will be performed live by the artist during the exhibition.
In the exhibition we also find Gonzan (2024), a series of large scale ceramic sculptures portraying two baby parrots, a ceramic rendering of a Fabergé egg containing a stage, a pair of richly ornamented sunglasses and large scale jewelry. In a two-chanel video, we hear a 3d-animation of the parrot Gonzan sing the story of his upbringing, soon coming to a realization of his position in the world of humans. Alongside these large installation, Åslund presents a new work, continuing the exploration of the medium of puppet theatre opera, this time putting the spotlight on theatre itself.
