The wind turbine is a Danish design icon and a symbol of innovation, green energy, and Denmark’s story as a pioneering nation. The Monobloc chair is something completely different, yet at the same time, much the same. The chair is everywhere. It is an inexpensive, mass-produced chair, designed to be accessible to everyone. It has therefore also become a global design object, part of a culture shaped by overconsumption and a throwaway mentality.
As part of the Design subject, the students brought the two together.
Working in groups, they built wind turbines 2.5 metres high, with a 1-metre rotor span, using nothing but Monobloc chairs.
A meeting between Danish design heritage and global mass production.
