In this specific task we were looking at essential tools, which the architect is using when trying to communicate the spaces that we relate to.  Beside the physical model and the photography we were introduced to the elements of technical architectural drawing (plan, section, elevation). These are the most common, and important,  representation tools for architecture, engineering and craftsmanship.  

The workshop was focused around a common process related to transformation. In the beginning the students were asked to make five drawings in specific dimensions. The drawings were then transformed into five section models in cardboard, which were later arranged in different compositions – this was done in groups. Each group had to investigate the compositions via photography, before choosing one of them to draw up in two elevations and two sections. The idea was to focus on the more precise drawing and the instruments (line thickness, hatching techniques, shading, etc.) that can be used to give a greater insight of a given space. Finally the students had to draw free hand. They could freely roam around the composition and choose to focus on one small area or include the whole model.  In the end teachers and students looked at the various drawings and compositions and talked about the specific tools’ pros and cons, how they compliment each other and which instruments you can implement to strengthen the understanding of your drawing.
