Architecture

Spring 2026

still life

In this project, the architecture students worked with two different approaches to exploring and understanding the fundamental principles of architecture: still lifes and arkitektoner. We began with still lifes, where the students arranged objects found around the school. Through working with composition, they investigated the spaces created between the objects and trained their ability to observe, describe, and discuss architecture. Along the way, they worked with both freehand sketches and technical drawings, strengthening their understanding of form, space, and proportion. The next part of the project focused on arkitektoner. This phase began with a trip to the fjord, where each student found a stone that became the foundation for their arkitekton. Based on the stone, they selected two qualities that came to define the design of the project. These qualities were explored through model-making, and later the students produced sectional drawings that included both the arkitekton and the stone. An arkitekton serves as a spatial investigation of constructed form, based on clearly defined themes, and the project allowed the students to explore architectural fundamentals — from what is observed to what is constructed.
