With visit from artist Anna Samsøe the architecture department has been investigating how smoke and clay can create a sensory experience.
In groups of two and three, the students were asked to create a smoke sculpture of clay. The work process includes considerations of how the smoke moves around the sculpture, how the essence of the smoke is – is it heavy and rich or light and volatile. And how the scent of the smoke can affect the senses. Is it a sharp and penetrating scent or is it mild and perfumed.
The students also had to considerate the character of light. How its color and interaction with the smoke can have an impact on the experience of the work.
Thanks to Anna Samsøe for a good collaboration and a great week.
