Structral Equilibrium

This week guest teacher Gonçalo André Pires from Studio Sotnas visited Architecture 1. He introduced the workshop with a talk about architectural structures spanning over large spaces. In pairs, the students have been assigned a specific building that was analyzed to discover and understand how it is structurally conceived. The found principles were then translated into a new spatial structure that was built in wood and wire. These new structures were to define large spaces according to specific spatial qualities suggested by the former studies on structure. The new structure was drawn freehand with a blue and a red pencil representing compression and tension.
