The students in our architecture department were introduced to Casting in a two-headed assignment. In the first part the students were asked to explore plaster as material by making several small castings. To focus these investigations each student had to develop a system that would create a collection of different elements – a casting selection – which, though variation, appeared coherent. The second part of the assignment had Composition as theme. The students were asked to work intuitively and to use the pre-fabricated, elements from their casting selections, to create different spatial compositions. Through photography they would study the created spaces between the elements and discover new potential.
