We have reviewed and reworked Ursula Le Guin’s text The Author of the Acacia Seeds. This short story, first published in 1974, is part of Le Guin’s speculative fiction and explores language, communication, and art from a deeply original perspective. The story imagines a universe where animals and plants have their own complex forms of language and artistic expression. In The Author of the Acacia Seeds, Le Guin challenges our understanding of intelligence, art, and communication by presenting us with the possibility of an entirely different way of perceiving creation and understanding in nature.
These various texts have been transformed into small books, which we have printed, folded, and cut by hand. The students have created a visual narrative that enhances and highlights the deeper layers of Le Guin’s work, while also seeking to inject new energy into her ideas.
Through this project, we aim to inspire others to embark on their own book production, experimenting with the creation of books and zines.
