Inspired by Frei Otto’s and Heinz Isler’s funicular structure models, the students at Architecture have created a sacred space. The funicular shape, which include the dome, was developed as wire models which then were fixed in plaster. The initial intuitive studies of wire in plaster then had to be taken seriously as architectural statements and the project had to be developed around the qualities and character of the fixated wire model.
The sacred space should create a framework for personal reflection, regardless of faith, religious conviction, or spirituality. It could be a room of a religious nature or a room for meditation, reflection, a ceremony, or the like. The scale of the models is 1:20 and should be thought of as a room that only a few people could occupy simultaneously.
