Graphic Design challenges the visual language. The language which is so endlessly familiar to us. Graphic design is visual and linguistic messages, which are able to move voices, change opinions, and turn lies into truth.
To be able to communicate requires responsibility. It is easy to make your projects look like reality. To make projects interesting, you must take them a little further.
Our field is wide and covers everything from detailed, practical knowledge about typography and layout to developing personal expression. Drafting and generating ideas are crucial tools when working in such a versatile field as graphic design: books, magazines, posters, visual identity, typography, logotypes, and installations.
We always begin with a conversation. Within the dialogue one idea becomes many, and the assignments evolve into something meaningful. The community strengthens the contribution from each individual student and hereby establishes a priceless network. When is good, good enough? When is enough, enough? Your personal opinion is important. It provides a basis for debate. The more thoughts and ideas a project contains; the more interesting it becomes to discuss. If you seek the limits, the limits will be defined.
It is important to know how a book or a magazine work. This can only be understood by doing it yourself and thereby learning if the typography and photography add up well. We are able to work with large issues using our Risograph A2. This way, the books and magazines will end up in the hands of the reader, and we can go all the way; from idea and concept to graphic design, printing, folding, and sewing. Furthermore, the gap between an idea and an issue of 500 printed posters is small. Projects like these can become reality in a single day.
Each student will be provided with a computer, and programmes like Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign will soon become familiar tools. Working with your hands will be included as a fascinating and necessary addition to the computer. Pencil, scissor, glue, paper, paint, and brush are essential tools in both the drafting phase and in composing the final product. Furthermore, we include other fields from the school: serigraphy, literature, photography, and art.
