Visiting Publishing Houses in Copenhagen

If you have aspirations to become a writer, it is quite beneficial to know what is happening at the various publishers and in Denmark. Therefore, our literature department has been in Copenhagen to visit publishers.

On Monday we visited the publisher Gladiator. Here we spoke with Jakob Sandvad, who is the director of the publishing company, and who is one of the founders. A lot has happened since, and the publishing house has become especially known for their schools.

On Tuesday morning it was time for another visit to a publisher. This time we visited Gyldendal, the biggest publishing house in Denmark, where we heard about their various new releases, how to become an editor at a publishing house, and what Gyldendal looks for when hiring debutants.

The tour ended at the publishing house Lindhardt and Ringhof, where we spoke with publishing manager Sune De Souza Schmidt-Madsen. We talked about the joys of literature and a publisher’s strategy. All visits to the publishers were marked by an informal mood, with plenty of time to ask questions, and the literature team returnes to school on Tuesday night exhausted but happy.
