THE POETICS OF THINGS / STILL LIFE

Photography has the ability to give meaning to otherwise insignificant objects and change the way we see them. Through working with scale, background, light and composition daily day objects can transform from being things we do not consider, to being extraordinary elements in poetic, fun or sad photographs.

The assignment had two parts: One was a snapshot of one ore more objects that were to be photographed as they were. You were not allowed to move or change the surroundings of the objects, but only work with light, framing and composition.
The other part was a still life. For this image you could build, change and interact as much as wanted. Set the light, change the background, construct etc. It was important to think about the perception of the objects; was there a story to be told? A thought to be communicated? Or was it about form and colour?
